Allowing you to experience the very best that vinyl has to offer, the Sequel will impress you with its combination of crisp clean clarity, outstanding solidity and precise sound.

Cascading key features from our iconic Acutus, Sequel has a focus and immediacy, coupled with delicacy and finesse that is very beguiling.

"Presence and realism that is reach out and touch it real" - Jason Kennedy

Key Features

  • Periphery Damped Platter
  • Classic Power Supply
  • High Torque Drive Motor
  • Vibration Tuned Subchassis

Live Music

"Interestingly, many analogue addicts actually admit the AVID is brilliant but don't like the sound, describing it is as to stark, too dynamic, too clear. But to criticise it for these reasons is to object to its proximity to live music, which possesses the same characteristics. It certainly isn't a machine to provide background music - being a seat-of-the-pants listening experience - but if you're satisfied that this is what you want then there's nothing at the price to touch it." - David Price

Turbo Sound

Seemingly both Sequel and Volvere models are identical and structurally they are, however the Sequel employs the Classic Power Supply and basic unmodified motor from the Acutus. The larger power supply and the three times more powerful motor gives a sonic improvement that takes literally seconds to realise. It's like adding a turbo.

"Reintroducing you to your record collection" - Paul Rigby

WHAT'S INSIDE

Power Supply

Enabling the powerful motor to deploy its full potential, we have taken the Classic PSU found on our Acutus model. This combination turbo charges what would be the Volvere model with a sonic leap into another dimension. It is not a subtle improvement, but paints a vividly realistic image of the recording, the presentation, dramatically focussed yet making you emotionally connected to the music.

Motor

Employing the same powerful motor as used in our Acutus range, this gives the Sequel huge sound dynamics, but with total control. So, you can plumb the depths of the deepest bass rifts without losing the subtitles of the detail within the midrange and treble. Voices are etched in space; with a solidity and realism you will not hear from turntables using low powered motors. Using our twin belt drive to maximise the platter dynamics, music starts and stops like it should, the rhythm becoming infectious.

Clamp

Our single action clamp, crafted from solid aluminium with a stainless-steel grounding point, automatically flattens your records to the platter surface and aids the negative vibration present within the record to pass through the spindle to the subchassis below.

This reduces the noise floor of the record itself, allowing you to hear more information and realism from your cherished records.

Platter

Precision machined balanced from a solid billet of aluminium, the platter is mass loaded at the edge, giving it a high rotational inertia. Coupling with the conical shaped bearing, there is no lateral movement as it self-centres. The cork mat offers a perfect interface to reflect vibration, keeping it in the record so it passes away more efficiently through the spindle. Around the edge we have employed a high-density rubber absorbing ring, acting as a peripheral wave trap for any minor vibration in the platter.

Bearing

Derived directly from the Acutus, the fixed spindle is press fitted into the subchassis, which allows optimum vibration transmission. Common with all our turntables, the captive tungsten carbide ball placed in the spindle top, locates centrally in our uniquely designed sapphire jewelled thrust point. With zero lateral movement we manage to eliminate rumble noise making AVID turntables silent. The bearing is also self-lubricating and maintenance free for life.

Subchassis

Cast from large grain aluminium, our uniquely designed subchassis optimises rigidity where its most required to keep the tonearm and bearing coupled to prevent any loss of musical information. A coating is applied to specifically damp high frequency vibration, so that both high and low frequency vibration is time aligned during dissipation, give a clear, focused and neutral sound.

Suspension

Taking inspiration from our reference models, the uniquely frequency adjustable suspension is carried down to our Sequel and Volvere models. With each suspension point tuneable to the same frequency rate regardless of the changing load of different tonearms, the movement of the suspension can be optimised for a high degree of isolation. Tuned at 3.5Hz, very little external vibration enters the turntable keeping noise and distortion exceptionally low. This means you hear more clearly and your cartridge tracks records more faithfully and without the potential to damage them through mistracing.

REVIEW & AWARDS

AVID Ingenium, Diva II SP, and Sequel SP - Read More

"In and of themselves, the AVID turntables have a forcefully solid, grounded, and tonally full-bodied, but also slightly relaxed and gently smooth presentation. The interesting thing is that they are also very neutral and highly revealing of all the aspects of the tonearm and cartridge that are mounted on them. In fact, the Diva and Sequel seem to be considerably more neutral, linear, and transparent than any other turntable that I have used thus far." - Christiaan Punter

AVID HiFi Sequel SP Review - Read More

"Our detailed test of the AVID HiFi Sequel SP showed only one problem: drives like the AVID HiFi Sequel SP, developed on such an amazingly high level, with such a sovereign, precise playing style, almost give the impression that it is no longer possible to sound exactly as it sounds, that you have perhaps even reached the end of a long search for the perfect drive. So it’s a good thing that the AVID HiFi Sequel SP always keeps a low profile and leaves enough room for further experiments with the pickup systems. After all, it is nothing more and nothing less than a tool for perfect music playback, but there should still be some room for experimentation…" - Michael Holzinger

TEST: Avid Sequel SP – Analogue master drive for audiophile music enjoyment - Read More

"The Avid Sequel SP shows how good a subchassis drive can be: It shines with outstanding transparency and clarity, with wonderful dynamics and sensitivity, with extraordinary calm and power in the presentation. This excellence is ensured by the official three-point spring bearing with lateral stabilization, a complex, extremely low-friction inverse bearing, an externally located powerful motor that drives the turntable precisely and stably using an external power supply with speed control, and also power transmission via two drive belts. The Avid Sequel SP is trimmed from top to bottom to minimize resonance and vibration, with the record clamp being the visible crowning glory. In our test model, the drive is ennobled by a great tonearm, the SME 309, and a very good scanning system, the Nagaoka MP-150. This configuration is not a must, and with other suitable combinations the Avid Sequel SP will ensure what it is all about: Enjoying music through outstanding vinyl playback." - Volker Frech

SCHWINGEND IM FLUSS - Read More

"The test trio plays at a high level, no doubt about it. The pickups leave room for improvement for a reasonable price. There is still room for improvement, also due to the excellent players. The SME 309 tonearm does an impeccable job, but adding another one would be expensive. But I was particularly impressed by the subchassis concept of the Avid Sequel SP. The clever construction easily compensates for external influences. This top drive floats finely and keeps the sound flowing wonderfully. World class.." - Lothar Brandt

Avid SEQUEL SP - Read More

"When the test was coming to an end, and the Sequel SP was about to be packed I received the call from the distributor to listen to this turntable with the dedicated phonostage and XLR cables. So I received the Avid Pulsare II Phono Pre-Amplifier. Having the distributor show, that he cares about synergy, is worth mentioning. It does not require miracles, but it is enough to present what he has best for this setup. I plugged in the elements of the puzzle in my system (the phonostage is in two boxes) and listened. I could immediately hear a different approach to the source material, which was slightly thinned, improving the contours of the sound coming from the speakers, and was now more neutral. This going in the direction of tonal balance increases the potential target group, which does not need to search for a compatible phonostage. This experience allowed me also to verify, that the set is well balanced and the buyer will be absolutely satisfied. I can also add, that the deck itself has a much higher potential. I tested it with a phonostage almost twice as expensive as the Pulsar II, and the Sequel SP showed, that it can be done better. And this is not often the case, as usually a more refined device shows the shortcomings of the cheaper one. This time the marriage of the Katowice made Theriaa with the tested turntable shone with a deeper, more airy stage, darker background and better three-dimensionality of the virtual sound sources. Unfortunately such good things cost a lot, but I wanted to show to you, that the middle offering of Avid, the Sequel SP, has a lot of potential. I witness many failures with such combinations, so even more kudos to Avid. Bravo!" - Jacek Pazio

"The Avid Sequel SP is an analog drive with an outstanding sound. Mechanically manufactured with absolute precision, it provides fantastic working conditions for the individual combination of tonearm and pickup. If you want to ensure that all the scanned information reaches the preamplifier, you will definitely not make a mistake if you choose the Pulsare II for the preamplification. The sum of these parts impressively shows, at the very highest level, the enormous sound potential of analog playback. In a series of musical moments of happiness, only one question remains unanswered: what was the purpose of the compact disc? The Avid Sequel SP provides the most convincing answer to date, which makes it an i-fidelity.net reference " - Olaf Sturm

Avid Sequel SP - Read More

"This is the best British analogue art, which meets even the highest expectations with impeccable workmanship and completely problem-free handling. Thanks to its sub-chassis construction, the Sequel SP is largely independent in the choice of location, which is definitely an important criterion Forms an excellent basis for a wide selection of tonearms and cartridges, so nothing stands in the way of the analog gaming instinct and deserves a clear recommendation." - Helmut Rohrwild

Avid Sequel SP - Read More

"It was only after I thought I’d fi nished reviewing the Avid Sequel SP and delivered it to Newport Test Labs for testing that I realised I had written absolutely nothing about the sound of the Ortofon 2M Blue itself, nor had I once felt moved to exchange it with another cartridge… which could only mean that the performance of the Avid Sequel SP and SME IV was so good that they were able to extract from the 2M Blue a level of performance that I would not have believed possible unless I’d heard it with my own ears… which is exactly what I did. So how much better would the sound be using a phono cartridge whose quality was more commensurate with that of the Sequel SP and SME IV If you love vinyl, you should rush down and audition an Avid Sequel SP right now. I can assure you that you will never, ever, regret that you did! "Suitably partnered, it promises a winning combination of focus and immediacy, coupled with delicacy and finesse that's very beguiling. So much so, it can be difficult to listen to the Sequel SP. It sounds so natural and truthful, your attention is immediately grabbed by the music and performance - indeed you almost forget it's there " - Jimmy Hughes

TURNTABLE WINNER: AVID VOLVERE SEQUEL £4,600 - Read More

"We'd counsel partnering with a Naim ARO tonearm and a Koetsu or van den Hul cartridge, whereupon it mellows out and sweetens up, giving just the right balance between detail and beguiling musicality. Beautifully made, functionally superb but not terribly sexy to look at, the Avid Volvere Sequel does exactly what a high end turntable should do which is bring you closer to your record collection. "
