EnjoyTheMusic has recognized the Esoteric K-01XD SE as part of its Best Of 2026 Blue Note Awards, following Dr. Michael Bump’s in-depth review of Esoteric’s reference single-chassis SACD/CD player and high-resolution DAC.

The review places the K-01XD SE near the top of Esoteric’s digital-player hierarchy, below only the Grandioso line. Bump focuses on the VRDS-ATLAS 01 transport, Master Sound Discrete DAC and clock architecture, power-supply design, and substantial mechanical construction.
In listening, the review repeatedly returns to scale, layering, transient speed, spatial information and tonal character. Bump reports strong air and dimensionality, textured low frequencies and extended but controlled treble. The K-01XD SE also works as a high-resolution DAC for external digital sources, giving it a role beyond physical-disc playback.

The K-01XD SE makes a strong case for keeping SACD and CD playback at the center of a serious system while also serving as a reference DAC for external digital sources. At this level, system matching matters: clocking, cabling, preamplifier choice and downstream resolution all become part of realizing what the source can do.
