Magico A5 · Black Aluminum · Store-demo pair

Big music.
Very serious engineering.

The Magico A5 is for the listener who wants the whole performance: the weight of the orchestra, the texture of a voice, and the little details that make a familiar record worth another evening.

Our Black Aluminum demonstration pair brings Magico’s A-Series flagship within reach at $18,500 per pair. It is a substantial opportunity—and at 180 pounds apiece, “substantial” is doing double duty.

From our floor to your listening room

A speaker to build a system around.

The appeal of the A5 is easy to understand. Three bass drivers give it scale. A dedicated midrange keeps voices at the center of the conversation. The cabinet is built with the kind of seriousness usually reserved for things that have to survive a launch.

Deep, controlled bass, convincing scale, and resolution that keeps the music engaging: that is the appeal of a carefully matched A5 system. The point is to spend more time listening, preferably with the next record already picked out.

What the engineering buys you

Five drivers. One coherent purpose.

A cabinet with a job to do

The sealed enclosure uses braced 6061-T6 aluminum to resist unwanted vibration. That matters because a cabinet that joins in with the music adds sound of its own. Here, the engineering effort goes toward keeping the enclosure quiet.

Three 9-inch bass drivers

Magico’s Graphene Nano-Tec cones combine low mass with stiffness. Three woofers provide the radiating area for demanding low-frequency passages, while the sealed cabinet avoids a bass-reflex port. Room placement still matters; a sealed enclosure is not a free pass on acoustics.

A midrange given its own space

The dedicated 5-inch graphene midrange sits in a separate chamber, isolated from the pressure generated by the woofers. Its assignment is the expressive center of the music: voices, strings, piano, and the textures that tell one instrument from another.

Beryllium above, Mundorf within

A 28 mm pure beryllium tweeter handles the upper frequencies. Magico’s Elliptical Symmetry crossover uses Mundorf components, including M-Resist Ultra foil resistors, in a three-way, 24 dB-per-octave Linkwitz-Riley network.

A little system sense

Choose the amplifier.
Then give the room its due.

Magico specifies 88 dB sensitivity, a nominal 4-ohm load, and 50–1,000 watts of recommended amplifier power. That broad wattage range is a starting point. Current delivery and stability into low impedances deserve just as much attention as the number printed on the amplifier’s front-page specification.

John Atkinson’s Stereophile measurements found a 2.6-ohm impedance minimum and a demanding combination of impedance and phase in the bass. His recommendation was amplification comfortable with 2-ohm loads. We can help assess your existing amplifier before you decide what, if anything, needs to change.

For placement, the owner’s manual starts with approximately 20 inches between the rear of the speaker and the wall behind it, then calls for listening and adjustment. Keep the speakers equally distant from your listening position and refine toe-in for focus and tonal balance. Those are starting points, not promises that every room behaves the same way.

Bring us your room dimensions, listening distance, amplifier model, and the sort of music you actually play. The system should suit your evenings, not somebody else’s demonstration playlist.

The Absolute Sound · Matthew Clott

Clott describes a rich, transparent presentation, carefully defined images, and articulate bass. He also stresses capable amplification and room setup, and notes that poor recordings can sound exposed. His review is reproduced on Magico’s website.
