Start with what you actually use.

If the computer is your main source and the speakers will sit a few feet away, we would start the conversation here. A desktop system should make it easy to enjoy music throughout the day. It should also leave you somewhere to put the keyboard.

The L/R S puts amplification into a compact stereo pair. You do not need a separate amplifier. You do still need to think about placement: where your ears are, what the speakers sit on, and whether the monitor is forcing them into awkward positions.

Connect the computer. Keep it simple.

USB-C audio gives you a wired computer connection. Bluetooth handles a phone, while optical and RCA line inputs accommodate other sources. There is also an RCA subwoofer output.

The important distinction is what is absent: no built-in network streaming, HDMI eARC or phono stage. If you want a TV-centered system with streaming and a turntable, have a look at the L/R M before adding boxes to the S.

Give a small system a fair chance.

Keep the left and right speakers at roughly equal distances from you. Aim them toward your listening position, and avoid putting one in a corner while the other sits in open space. We can help you decide whether stands or a change in desk position would be useful.

If you own a turntable, tell us the model and cartridge. The S needs a suitable phono stage upstream; that may already be built into your turntable.

When would we move up?

When the job changes. Sitting across a living room, sharing the system with the television, or wanting network streaming all change the conversation. The M adds useful source connections. The X is worth investigating when output and bass demands grow. Bigger is a reason to ask questions, not an automatic upgrade.
